Besides the tasks outlined in each internship position, all interns are expected to assist with the day-to-day operations and preparation each week with a focus on artist services.
General duties include organizing artist hospitality, housing and transportation and welcoming traveling artists, and patrons. Leadership roles will rotate each performance for set up and break down of theatre, pre-show box office, parking, and post show reception. All interns will also work with FlyTime: Kids Make Dance Children's dance workshop series, be expected to attend daily dance class, be involved in the execution of choreography and performance assignments, as well as help keep the grounds clean and presentable, ensuring patron and artist comfort and safety.
All interns assist with the implementation of special events: set up of tables, chairs, post-show receptions, pre/post show clean-up, and operating sound equipment during events. Additional tasks include answering general inquiries, assisting disabled patrons, and directing parking which all require strong customer service skills. Interns also help in cleaning and turnover of houses on property, as well as the daily cleaning of the studio and theatre spaces. Administrative duties, including data entry and maintenance through FileMaker and Quickbooks, resource scheduling and tracking, general office support duties, and participation in various research projects, are also required.
Candidates for all positions must demonstrate a genuine interest in company, stage or event management, and performing arts administration in general. They should be detail-oriented, confident in a public leadership role (or at the very least a support role in public interactions and customer service), and organized and efficient at multi-tasking. The Yard is looking for candidates enthusiastic to learn as well as contribute to the successful and efficient planning of The Yard's 40th Anniversary Performance Season. Despite the beach being ten minutes away, the staff at The Yard expect all interns to fulfill their duties with a positive attitude and good humor in the face of long hours and an exciting, yet rigorous, workload.

“The Yard experience was one of the best I had in my early years. The people I worked with there have been very influential in my career. The piece I made was my first real breakthrough in dance, so it was a really big summer for me.”
